James Garfield

James Garfield was born on November 19Th 1831 in Orange, Ohio. He attended Williams College in Massachusetts in 1856 and returned to the Hiram College as a professor. He was married to Lucretia Garfield in November 1858. James was elected to the Ohio senate in 1859 as a republican.In 1862 when Union military victories were few, he led a successful brigade at Middle Creak,kentuky. At age 31 became a brigader general and 2 years laterbecame a majer genarel over volenters. At the 1880 Republican convention James failed to win the presidentle nomonation for his friend John Sherman. By a margin of 10,000 popeler votes James won the electtion. But on July 2 1881 he was shot at a railroad staition Alexander Graham Bell tried to find the bullit but failed.on sept, 19 1881 he died he left behind a wife and five kids.
